Was i freaked out by the number 13?
According to Wikipedia…
The number 13 is associated with bad luck in some countries, and even has a specifically recognized phobia, Triskaidekaphobia, a word which was coined in 1911. Friday the 13th has been considered an unlucky day since the 1800s, as a combination between an unlucky day, Friday, and the number 13. Another theory as to why the date and number 13 is considered unlucky is that, on the day of Friday the 13th after the final Crusade the pope had sent out men to capture and burn alive the last 13 Knights Templar in order to put an end to the Crusades.
A second theory links the bad luck associated with the number 13 with Jesus Christ's last supper where the persons around the table, counting the Christ and the twelve apostles, was, indeed, thirteen. This would also be the reason why it is considered unlucky to have 13 guests at a table.
Another theory states that the number 13 is unlucky because, when in years where there were 13 full moons instead of 12, it made it difficult for the monks who were in charge of the calendars. “This was considered a very unfortunate circumstance, especially by the monks who had charge of the calendar of thirteen months for that year, and it upset the regular arrangement of church festivals. For this reason thirteen came to be considered an unlucky number.” [4]

I have a major confession to make, so if you’re driving in your car you might want to pull over. During the podcast introduction I play air drums. Yes, that’s right. I hate to admit it, but I just love that theme song so much and I have to give all the credit to the guy who wrote it, I had nothing to do with it other than commissioning it. It just gets me excited to talk to you, it’s really great to be back on the mic.
Thank you so much for downloading this podcast. If you’re like me and you’re trying to build internet businesses one night at a time it’s really great to see you. Maybe you’re a full time internet marketer, whatever you’re doing I’m really glad you’re here and welcome to Episode 13. I hope 13 is not the unlucky episode – we’re going to get to that in a little bit. I was a little hesitant to do an episode 13, but we’ll talk about that. In the U.S. at least 13 is kind of an unlucky number, so we’ll get to that in a little bit.
We’re going to talk today about some things in my Google Reader. We’ve been trying to focus on affiliate marketing and we’re going to be doing that more and more on the podcast. So we’ll talk about focusing on your passion, which is something I touch base with a little bit in the episode. We’ll have some feedback, we’ll kind of talk a little bit about some feedback that I got on that passion thing. And then we’ll talk a little bit on the motivation side about how to stay motivated when you’re working on your internet businesses one night at a time. I’ve been wanting to podcast more and I say that every time. I just have had all these mental, emotional barriers to podcasting because it’s so much work, or at least it has been so much work for me in the past because of the way I was doing it. So I started doing some research on how to do some more kind of direct to drive kind of podcasting where I was really just doing the podcast all live, getting the thing onto disc and up into iTunes with as little post-production as possible.
So I started doing some research and as a lot of you guys know I ran across Cliff Ravenscraft, who I now consider a friend. He’s an awesome guy, he’s got over 2,700 episodes, I think that’s the right number, out there in the wild on iTunes. One of his strongest podcasts, in my opinion at least, is the Answer Man podcast. I listened to that for awhile. I bought some equipment from Cliff, in fact I’m sitting in front of here in my studio a bunch of equipment that I got from Cliff. He got me hooked up with some digital recorders, mixers, and things that really kind of help me take thing to the next level both from an ease of use standpoint and I hope from an audio quality standpoint, although I’m still making some tweaks there. So many thanks to Cliff. He’s really great guy. He’s got a lot of passion around podcasting and we’re going to be using him as an example a little bit later in this episode, because one of the things I want to talk to some more is what we talked about last time, which is focusing on your passion. I got some really interesting feedback about that that I want to share with you. Hopefully we’ll get to talk about that more.
One of the things that I’m going to try to be doing so I can get some more content out is just letting it roll, not doing a lot of editing and post-production, not cutting out a lot of things, not editing a bunch of stuff in, and just kind of letting things roll. So we’ll see how that goes. I would love to have your feedback on what you think about the format of the show or what you’d like to see.
You can always drop me a line on the listener feedback line at 214-444-8655, or you can send me an MP3 or written feedback to [email protected]. If you call the phone line, don’t worry, I don’t answer it, it’s a Google Voice line. You’ll get a recording and you don’t have to be shy, you can just leave me your thoughts and let me know what you think and we’ll go from there. So welcome again to Episode 13. It’s really great to have you here.
Great podcast Mark – I realized now how much I had missed these. I have followed Andrew based on your recommendation for a long time now. Andrew was talking about Odigger several months ago – I checked it out and was also blown away, but, alas, I found myself oohhing, ahhing and contemplating offers and ideas, but never moving beyond that. My success of late, as spotty as it is, has been focusing on buyer keywords with links to Amazon, rather than great offers. Maybe Andrew delves into that deeper in the course.
It would seem to me the two ways to really do well with offers is either highly targetted (how do I get my dog to lose weight) or highly viral (stupid cat videos). Then you can plug in all the greatest and latest pet offers or products and hit some niche sales. Thanks again Mark!
Thanks Mark and also Andrew, for this podcast was really informative. This is the first one that I have listened to and I was really impressed.
Thanks again 🙂
