While I was on the road in Asia, Google rolled out their latest animal.  Chances are that you've heard about the Google Penguin 3.0 Update.  The question is, what in the world should you do about it?  It turns out that Alex's advice from last week is right on the money when it comes to Penguin.   In this episode, we break down what the Google Penguin update is (and how to deal with it if you have been impacted.).   The most important thing is not to panic.  The sky is not falling.  SEO is not dead.  Mankind is not in jeopardy.

Here are the highlights of the items I shared in this episode:

• The difference between Penguin and Panda:
  • Panda – targeted at penalizing low quality websites with low quality content. Examples of these are sites with duplicate content, are spammy, have too many ads, and are poorly designed.
  • Penguin – designed to bring down websites which violate Google’s web master guidelines with regard to blog networks, spammy SEO and back links, and other techniques which are generally considered as black hat. The 3.0 is the latest revision of this algorithm.
• My advice about the Penguin 3.0 update:
  • If your site is affected, don’t panic, settle down, wait and see and don’t do anything. Some folks had experienced this and their websites went back up to the rankings after a couple of days.
  • Listen only to people who have actual data.
• Veering away from ordering spammy links to your money sites, avoiding over optimization of anchor text and the best ways to fight Penguin 3.0.
• The high quality links you should get including guest posts and the difference between blog network and a real guest post.
• How to go about doing guest posts and tips in writing your articles:
  • Get a list of the top 10 blogs in your niche, write content which would be good for these sites and contact them.
  • For a quality piece of content, your article should be approximately 1000 words, include images and add in section breaks that will make you look fantastic.
  • In the post, ensure you have author bios which link back to your site. Place it on top of the article by placing it as an introduction.

Junkie links are now being identified by these algorithms so it is time to stop building them. Work on building only quality links and stop buying spamming backlinks if you do not want your efforts wasted and lose your money sites.

Greetings from a Tiny Hotel Room

I am coming to you live from South Korea. In the last 10 days I’ve been to Korea, South Korea – I don’t go to North Korea, too hard to get back out once you go there – and the Philippines. I had a good time in the Philippines. I’ve been to Malaysia, both to the big city of Kuala Lumpur and the beautiful retirement resort community of Malacca. I also made a stop by Taiwan, Taipei, and I had the best dim sum I’ve ever had. I told you about that last week, that’s a really good city to go have dim sum in, as you might imagine.

Right now I’m connecting back through Seoul. I’m actually at the Incheon Airport and I had to take a redeye into Incheon, so I spent four or five hours asleep in the Incheon Airport Transit Hotel. Right now I’m in a beautiful 8×10 room, which includes a bathroom, a television, two twin beds, a desk, and a mini bar. I am jammed in here, but it makes a great recording studio so I thought I’d catch up with you guys and let you know what’s going on.
