This is episode one of my first ever video blog (Vlog). My intention with this Vlog is to give you some short behind the scenes glimpses into what's on my mind as I grow my online business. My current plan is to publish one of these short videos each week. We'll just see how it goes.
Don't worry – this is second priority to the Podcast — and the next episode is on the way soon.
[transcript:]
I just got finished watching Cliff Ravenscraft’s first ever video blog post – vlogging.
Vlogging is generally this idea where you are taking time each day or periodically to create content for your blog in the form of video. A lot of people use this as a way to show some behind the scenes information.
I liked this idea – Cliff’s a smart guy and I often follow his lead on things. I thought what I might do is start creating some short three or four minute video blog posts just about where my head is at with internet marketing and my small business.
Right now I’m sitting in my car at work and, as you can see, there’s somebody walking behind me and it kind of just distracted my attention. I’m between meetings and I’m thinking about my internet business. That’s often the case with me; I have a lot of this kind of downtime that I can use to create this kind of information just to give people a behind the scenes look.
Cliff’s stuff, as he’s shown it, is more kind of general. In fact, he even had a clip of himself at Kroger with his girls, which I thought was really cool. In my case, I’ll probably stick more to internet marketing topics and just put up some unedited video from time to time and call it my internet marketing vlog. So that’s where I’m going with this.
Today one of the things that’s on my mind is getting more clarity with where I’m really going with this business.
I’ve been really thinking about what would this look like in five years if I were to transition, at the age of approximately 50, from a mostly day job at a large $12B company and doing internet marketing at night to a lifestyle where I was doing internet marketing full time. What would that look like and what could I do now to enable that in five years? That’s kind of what’s on my mind.
One of the steps that I’ve taken to get there is I’m now in a mastermind group where I am clearly the lowest man on the totem pole from a size and importance of business standpoint. A lot of times when I get in a mastermind group I’m usually the one that’s helping other people, that’s just the kinds of masterminds that I’ve been in, or I’m in a mastermind with my peers. This is the first mastermind that I’ve been in where I can really say these guys aren’t my peers, these guys are people that I look up to in the business.
That’s sort of step one in growing a business, surround yourself with people that you want to be like.
That’s it for today. That’s what’s on my mind.
I’m going to follow Cliff’s lead. You can even see my dry cleaning hanging in the window back there.
Have a great day. Talk to you later. Bye.
Love it!
Thanks man. Really appreciate the feedback.
Great job Mark, love it, you got me thinking I need to start doing this.
Keep it up!
Marty
Thanks a lot Marty! That would be awesome. It’s easy to do, that’s for sure.
Appreciate the feedback.

Good idea Mark, enjoyed it! I may try to do this as well. I’m always thinking about internet marketing and have all these ideas, but lots of times I don’t feel like I have enough info or the time to write up an epic post about it. This would be a great “in-between” type thing.
Thanks Chris. This is exactly what I am planning to do. Once per week. I’m recording the stuff as it comes to me and posting it in the future so that it drips out. Current plan is a short video every Monday. Thanks for the feedback.
