This week I had the opportunity to drive a convertible Ford Mustang with the top down in sunny San Jose, CA. Man, was that great. Surprisingly, I did not have the radio on — I was actually listening to the Internet Business Mastery (IBM) podcast on my iPod. Jay and Sterling just released their latest episode — an interview with Yanik Silver. Now, I happen to think that the IBM podcast is the best internet marketing podcast on the net. If you have not checked it out, you should.
I think I hold the world record for rate of consumption of Internet Business Mastery podcasts. I discovered these guys exactly two weeks ago, and have listened to the entire series (37 episodes and counting) twice. Sterling always talks about “information overload” on the show, and how he listens to Dan Kennedy audio books in line at the grocery store. Well, this is worse by any measure — geeking out to an internet marketing podcast in a convertible mustang.
If you don't know, Yanik is a mega-guru when it comes to internet marketing. It turns out that he has a new book out. The book is called Moonlighting on the Internet. Well, that is exactly what I am trying to do, (but not for the usual reasons). I think that many people try to make money on the internet because they are looking for something for nothing. Then there are people who are stuck in their jobs. |
I am not in either of those groups. I really like my job and I really want to add some value on the net. I am not looking for something for nothing. This is more of a hobby for me. So, I ordered the Silver book after hearing Yanik talk about it on the IBM podcast, and I will let you know what I think in a few days when it arrives. That sort of gets me back to California and the Mustang. As many of you know, my first foray into internet marketing is really twofold — creating a “Niche Super Site” with a $2/day passive revenue goal, and blogging about the creation of that site on this site (thus creating useful content for those who come after me). So, it's back to work. I got my first eZineArticle rejected. Woo hoo! That will be the topic for my next post.
As a side note, I got very distracted reading the very famous Butterfly Marketing Manuscript by yet another guru, Mike Filsaime. This Mike guy is another guru and a total internet wildman. After reading that report, I can see how these big-money guys can make millions per year (his description of how HotMail happened made me realize that I have been under a rock for some time with regard to internet marketing). The whole report was a real “AH HA” moment. But, I am not ready for that yet — back to the getting started work for now (and waiting for Yanik's book).
The same thing happened to me – I discovered the podcast back in January and immediately had to scarf down every podcast – wow! It’s really helping sort my ducks and hopefully train them to get in a row ;P ~megan
That makes me feel better — LOL. Have you considered their course? It’s a little outside of my “hobby budget,” but the podcast is so great, I can only imagine how good the course must be.
While I would LOVE to take their course, it is so far outside my budget that I can’t even think of a metaphor or simile that comes close ;P – too bad they don’t give “scholarships” – in fact I think it would be cool if they held some kind of “why I deserve to win a scholarship” contest. Anyway, I am enjoying your super-niche series immensely – looking forward to all upcoming episodes. Megan
Thanks Megan — I really appreciate the positive feedback. The IBM guys have a very generous affiliate program. Maybe you could pay for the course that way…
Regards,
Mark
Megan — very cool blog. I had not seen that one. Looks like you left and r out of the URL
Thanks!
Mark
Hey Mark – I’m not worried – I now have some stuff going on – I took advantage of Eben Pagan’s free material & videos over at gurumastemindblog.com and got a real “Vision” of what I want to do (I Love it when a plan comes together ;P) and plan to have plenty of extra funds available by the next time they or Eben Pagan open up their next program.
Cheers~ megan
oops! sorry about that ;P thanks for fixing it – megan
I was looking for a Ford Mustang Blog and found yours. Anything done in a Mustang convertable is more enjoyable!
