All of this and more on the Mason World Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast….
Hello again. It’s Mark Mason from MasonWorld.com back on the mic and happy to be talking to you today. I hope you’re having an absolutely fantastic day. Whenever it is that you found time to listen to this I really appreciate you being there on the other side of the iPod or sitting at your PC, I appreciate your time and I’m really glad to talk to you today.
I’ve got some great stuff for you. The first thing I wanted to tell you was no, I don’t have a mouse in my pocket. I know you were wondering what I meant by that.
The other day I was on Twitter and I got a tweet from small business expert and personal friend of mine, Denise O’Berry. Denise is an expert in the area of small business and cash flow and other topics that are really important to small business entrepreneurs. She asked me why I always use the term “we” on my blog and in my podcast instead of “I,” because I’m a solo entrepreneur and it is “I.”
The first thing I thought of, well it really is “we.” I have several full time outsource employees, I work with excellent part time transcriptionist and graphics people, and so I really do think it is “we,” but that’s not really the reason that I use “we.” I thought about it a lot, I wondered what it meant, and I think it’s because my history outside of the internet marketing space has been for many years now as a manager.
As a manager one of my jobs is to make sure the people that work for me get credit for the work that they’re doing. One of the things that I’ve often said in my career in the offline world, in the non-internet marketing world is even though I’ve been at my engineering job for 20 years in various capacities, I’ve never actually done anything by myself. It has always been a team effort.
So, I’ve always been conscious about making sure that people get the credit that they deserve, whether they were my employees or other people’s employees for work that they’re doing. I’m careful never to take credit for other people’s work, so I think I’ve just conditioned myself to use the term “we.”
I love the new theme song, and I confess to singing along (probably not well either)
I’m looking forward to the start of class over at Niche Profit University, my newest goal is a profitable niche site (or two, or ten) so I’m ready to go!
Excellent podcast Mark – I could relate to alot of what Jeremy was saying.
