This week, we talk about my affiliate website on a farm tool (I know, right?); we discuss Internet Marketing buddies, Affiliate marketing with Pinterest, selling Chocolate online, and a listener question on syndication.
This is the podcast where we talk about how to build internet businesses one night at at time.
Shout out to Pat Flynn at Smart Passive Income — thanks for the bumper to kick off the show.
Farm Tool Site
In this episode, I talk about my experiment with Keyword Canine. I explain how Josh gave me a keyword at random for a farm tool. I just registered the domain and I created a small site. I am already getting a nice steady stream of organic traffic.
As promised, here are the traffic stats.
I walk through everything that I did in to create the site in the episode. As of today, the site has made about $8.00
I mentioned ArticleBuilder.net, phpBay and 1WayLinks.net in the episode.
Motivational Segment
You need friends in your niche. It helps with motivation. I discuss this idea at length in the episode. It't the little extra stuff that keeps you going. Make a friend today.
Affiliate Marketing With Pintrest
I review a great article about Pintrest in Lynn Terry's blog. Pintrest is a photo-based wishboard social networking site. It's growing really fast. Is it the next facebook? Hard to tell, but if you get on top if these social media sites before they explode, you can really ride the wave. Great article worth a read.
Selling Chocolate.
I mention how Loretta Oliver (my transcriptionist and friend at http://www.
Syndicating your content.
Thinking about taking the article you just wrote for you blog and posting elsewhere on the web? I don't think you should do that, and I discuss why in this part of the show.

(Still) Going Weekly — four weeks in a row!
It's week four after my big decision to go weekly. 4 podcasts down, 43 or so left for the year!
As always, I'd love to hear what you think about the podcast. Better yet, I’d love to answer your question about Internet marketing on the show. Just drop me a line here on the blog or on the digital recorder at 214-444-8655. Don’t worry, there are no stupid questions. Unless you tell me not to, when you ask a question or leave a comment might even use it on the show.
When the transcript is available, it will be here with all the other MasonWorld Late Night Internet Marketing Transcripts.
If you are lovin' the podcast, please be sure to leave us some feedback and subscribe in iTunes!

Episode 018 Transcript
How about that, it’s episode 18 and we’re still on track, still rolling weekly. I’m loving this weekly action, I hope you’re enjoying it at least half as much as I am. I’m really glad to be back in the studio.
I’ll tell you what. I’m a laughable disaster on the road when it comes to podcasting. I’m really going to have to work on that in the future. If I’m going to keep a weekly schedule I’ve got to travel sometimes, I’m going to be rolling around places and I’ve got to be able to do that on the road stuff.
I’ve got fantastic equipment. I’ve got this very portable Edirol recorder, it’s a Pro series kind of digital audio recorder and it’s great for recording. In fact, the microphones on the thing are good enough that when used properly you don’t even need to bring a microphone with you, you can use the built-in microphones.
I’ve got the absolutely fantastic and amazing MacBook Air. And yes I am a total Apple fan boy, I know that. I’ve got a copy of Adobe Audition on that rolling and ready to go. So I’ve got everything I need to do it. With Dropbox I’ve got all my podcasting files with me wherever I go.
But, you know, there are technical difficulties that can occur. For example, it turns out that these things run on batteries and the batteries need to be charged. So I ended up recording part of the last episode on my iPhone and getting all kinds of dinging and message reminders coming in during the show. I was trying to record in the car while driving to the airport and was trying to record in the hotel, but it was really noisy. It was a really nice hotel and really noisy, I don’t know what was up with that.
Anyway I hope you suffered through the last episode. If this is your first time listening to the Mason World Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast you can go back and listen to episode 17 and get an idea of all the crazy stuff that was going on. But, I’m here and I’ve got a lot of good stuff for you this week.
I want to talk to you about this project I promised I’d reveal a little more to you about, this affiliate website I built at the suggestion of my buddy Josh Spaulding about a farm tool. I told you a little bit about that before and we’re going to talk a little bit about that this week.
In this motivational segment this week I was kind of reflecting back on one of the biggest things that has influenced my journey in internet marketing and that’s having a friend or a buddy to kind of go along with on your journey. I think that’s been really important for me and I wanted to mention that.
In my Google Reader I wanted to tell you about an excellent guest post that I saw over on Lynn Terry’s site a couple days after Valentine’s Day about Pinterest. I know a lot of you are getting into Pinterest but you may not be aware of the affiliate marketing potential of that social networking site, so we’ll talk about that.
Also, in the feedback I had some input when I asked, “What do you want to hear on the podcast?” One person that I know really well, actually she’s got an awesome transcription service and I use her to transcribe the podcast, her name is Loretta and I will link to her in the show notes in case you need any transcription done. She’s kind of a funny lady and I really enjoy her, she said “I want to hear about chocolate.”
It occurred to me chocolate is one of those things that is perfect for affiliate marketing, so we’ll talk a little bit about affiliate marketing of chocolate to kind of help you get in the mindset that I am in about affiliate marketing where the internet is a big place and you can sell darn near anything that’s legal on the internet – and apparently some stuff that’s not legal, but I don’t know too much about that.
And then in the listener feedback section we’ll talk a little bit about syndication of content. You’re creating this content for your blog and the question is, “What should you do with it and how should you syndicate it?” I’ve got a listener question that came in on that and we’ll get into that.
Without too much further ado, that’s what I have planned for you today and I’m really looking forward to it.
Mark, This is the first site I’ve actually been hesitant to comment because of my website URL.
Glad to see you back in the podcasting game. I first came on board when you interviewed Pat in 2010. My weekly commute totals about 9 hours and I’m more than happy to squeeze you in. Instead of worrying about recording a show weekly, just try to record two episodes when you know you’ll be out the following week (I know, easier said than done). It’ll still be timely and you won’t have to mess with recording/editing on the road (though that might help keep you sane). If something sparks while your travelling, then post an off cycle episode (MW018.5).
Keep up the momentum.
Jason
@LazyBastardLife Thanks for the nice comment. I really appreciate the advice, and I’ll take the URL thing as a compliment. LOL.
Interesting thing about your URL…
I actually love the idea of your URL. It is memorable and makes me want to click. But I can see why that could cause you some (small) trouble as your brand gets bigger. Press releases come to mind. Not sure if the Today Show would be cool with that URL either. But I like the “edgy” feel of it.
One possible workaround for you would be to register LazyDogLife.com and 301 Redirect it to your site. Then when you wanted to be 100 percent family safe, you could use that URL. Just a thought.
I love your ideas for travel — planning ahead is not my very strongest trait, but you are absolutely right. I really appreciate the feedback.
Thanks!Mark
@masonworld Yea, I wanted something other than keywordPassivekeyword.com. Thanks for the suggestion on the 301 redirect. That is something that I never thought of and is an extremely creative solution should my site ever become popular.
@LazyBastardLife Excellent.
Wow Mark. I was driving down the road, listening to the Podcast and my head was about to explode. I came up with a gob of questions and then a potential show idea for you, based on all that “brain explosion”. How could we visit?
BTW, I’d be available late since I’m “building my business one night at a time”…
@brentgiesler Cool. Would you be open to doing it as an interview that I could share with other listeners? If you have questions, I can promise you that other people have them too. What do you think?
@masonworld
That’s exactly what I was thinking. I thought I could ask my questions around the content I heard on that episode. You could answer/expound and then I could go implement what you taught me. Then, you could do whatever follow ups you wanted, to see what kind of results I was getting.
I’m really not trying to scam private tutoring, but I thought a live case study would be a good way to do a lot of things, like create a tutorial series, create an eBook, etc.
Wow. Can you tell I’m pumped about all this?
@brentgiesler Sounds like fun. Send me an email? mark at masonworld dot com.
@masonworld
Will Do. I’m hoping to listen to the episode again tonight (while I’m not driving) so I can write down all the questions I thought of. Then I’ll shoot those over to you so you can point me to the next step.
@brentgiesler that sounds perfect.
Hey Mark, glad to see you are Podcasting again and making progress on your 2012 goals. I talked to you via a few comments here back in December, when I found your site through Pat Flynn’s podcast and you were super helpful. Now that I’ve burned through all Pat’s Podcasts, I pulled down your new ones for my commute and I listed to most of this one today. Looking forward to further details on the niche site/keyword canine experiment.
@Chris S. I cover more details in episode 19 — but if you have specific questions, fire away! Thanks for listening.
Yay for the chocolate episode!
