One of the things I get asked all the time is how in the world do you make time for a part-time internet business on the side when you have a day job and a family
Naked Truth: Not easy.
In this episode, I reveal 10 tips for managing your time when you are trying to start up a part-time internet business.
I also interview Jason Van Orden from Internet Business Mastery and get his views on time management.
Ten Internet Business Time Management Tips
Here are the ten time management tips that I cover in the podcast
Time management – how do I get all this stuff done? I feel like I am drowning and my head is going to explode. I get this question a lot
Truth is that I am a terrible time manager. Particularly when it comes to details. Ask my wifE. Shell tell you.
I have great intentions, though. So one of my failure modes is over commit and under deliver.
Ten Part time Internet marketing time management tips
1. Choose a passion that has a profitable niche; Don't chase the money.
2. Have a great plan and focus on it. Have an aim and don't be distracted by bright shiny stuff.
3. Try to accomplish something every day.
4. Information diet. http://www.latenightim.com/academ
- news and other junk
- stuff you don't need to know right now
- mailing lists
5. Latch on to someone that inspires you. Pat Flynn, Cliff Ravenscraft. Use their example and energy to fuel you.
6. Convert wasted time into work time. Learn on the go. I prefer audio.
7. Ditch the television. Seriously. Easy to say, hard to do.
8. Use technology like Evernote to capture your ideas and to do work when you can.
9. Avoid overly complex magic systems
10. Outsource
- Fiverr
- Odesk
- Media Piston

Making Time For Your Internet Business
That’s Geoff Smith on guitar there with the unplugged version of the Mason World Late Night Internet Marketing Podcast theme. That’s terribly cool. Thanks for letting me indulge you with that. I’m totally digging the unplugged version of the theme song.
Unplugged seemed appropriate, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve been on the mic so I’ve been a little unplugged myself and I thought I’d roll out that unplugged version. I though this episode what we ought to do is talk a little bit about part time internet and time management.
How in the world do you find the time to run a part time internet business if you’ve got a day job? That’s a question a lot of people have on their mind, I get that question all the time.
I got this tweet the other day from Dewayne Marion:
@masonworld what do you do when all time for internet biz is taken?wow! its a busy life!
— Dewayne Marion (@podcastzen) May 6, 2012
Your life is busy, so what do you do? I’ve got some tips on that. I’ve been doing this for three or four years and I can talk to it a little bit. I’m going to tell you everything that I know about it and then I’m going to cut to an interview with Jason Van Orden.
Jason has a really cool course on how he and Sterling manage their time. It’s one of the best time management courses that I’ve run across, and the only one I’ve ever seen that’s specific to online business. It’s really good.
I’m going to give you some really good free tips here as well. Jason and Jay’s course is very affordable, but it’s not free. We’ll point you to that here after Jay’s interview here.
I thought before we do that I’d talk to you a little bit about what’s been going on in the last week since we last spoke. I think the last time I talked to you I was broadcasting from Taiwan. Since then I’ve been back and doing a lot of work on this Google business.
One of the things I love best about your podcast is the funny comments at the end…actually after the official end. Always makes me chuckle. I found you from Cliff Ravenscraft btw. Keep up the podcasts and great job!
@LourdesWelhaven I love Cliff’s show! I can tell you have good taste in content 😉
@LourdesWelhaven Thanks. I love Cliff Ravenscraft — he is really an awesome guy in so many ways (and has may qualities that I aspire to). Appreciate the comments (and I’ll keep the nuttiness coming just for you). 🙂
@masonworld @jasonvo @LourdesWelhaven Three awesome people talking great things about me? I’m honored. You all three rock! Thanks for the mention!
Mark,
Thanks for having me on the show. Always a pleasure. I’m glad the blanket legacy carries on!
@jasonvo Thanks Jason. It was a real pleasure. I have sure learned a ton from you over the years, and appreciate you teaching and friendship. You are always welcome on my show! Thanks again! Mark
We recently got ready of Directv and it has been so nice! I don’t feel tied to it anymore. We still have Netflix but to me I have so much more control about what I watch and when I watch it. Even with DVR I felt like I had to watch a certain show by a certain time. I have been able to get more work done since we cancelled it.
That new “Embed this tweet” feature from Twitter is pretty darn cool.
The unplugged version of the song is pretty cool, but I still like the original upbeat version.
I just popped over here from Mr. Flynn’s email today. I saw the title of this podcast and hope it’ll help me juggle (a) day job and (b) quality time w/ my wife in the evening (c) enough sleep (d) usual early wake up by 3 yr old twin boys–ca 5:45 and (e) a little exercise somewhere and then, finally, developing a blog that can be a business.
Good tips with video representation as well. With the approach to get ahead with the term, the sequence which makes a significant difference in the approach is what I believe is a proper time management. For a respective time management and approach, I have been using the cloud based hours tracking software from Replicon ( http://www.replicon.com/olp/hours-tracking-software.aspx ) which is hassle free and is featured with the user friendly and calendar based interface that makes it an intuitive tool to work with.
